KVIS 30

Overview
KVIS 30 is the trade name of Kothari’s slightly higher molecular weight polybutene, ranging from 1250 to 1350. KVIS 30 is widely used by our customers as a cling additive in stretch / cling film manufacturing (either incorporated directly into film extrusion or through a PIB masterbatch).

Due to its high quality, non-toxic nature and clarity, KVIS 30 is purchased by customers in indus-tries such as sealants, coatings, and chewing gum.

Applications

Sealants and Caulks

KVIS polybutenes are most widely used in sealants and putty formulations as an effective replacement for the drying oils.

The polybutene can impart the following properties to the sealants
» Permanence
» Improved adhesion and cohesion and
» Ageing
» Less shrinkage
» Lower oil-to-filler ratios
KVIS polybutenes act as a plasticizer and it add tack to elastomer-based sealants.

Addition of polybutene results in a softer sealant. Such sealants can be easily extruded and can be applied from an application gun without using large proportions of solvents. The reduced usage of solvents facilitates environmental benefits. The product shrinkage after application will be minimized due to the reduced usage of solvents.

Polybutenes can be formulated along with butyl rubber for being used in sealants for double glazed window systems, and other applications where low moisture vapour transmission is important. This type of sealant is more suitable for use as both primary and secondary sealants in the window-glazing unit.

In Silicone based high performance sealants, KVIS can be employed as a partial replacement/extender for silicone oil. The addition of KVIS polybutenes can result in cost savings without compromise on the properties of the sealant.

When polybutene is added to Clear Sealants it imparts outstanding peel adhesion and good ageing characteristics.

Stretch / Silage / Cling Wrap
Kothari polybutene is the ideal tackifier for linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) is Polybutene.

Polybutene offers excellent cling properties to the film when added to LLDPE.

Polybutene can be added to the production of LLDPE film either by way of

» LLDPE / PIB masterbatches or
» Direct addition to the LLDPE during the film extrusion process
The major areas of application for tackified LLDPE are pallet stretch wrap and bale silage wrap.

The films made by incorporating polybutene exhibit good clarity, durability and cling properties.

Very low toxicity of the KVIS polybutenes enable them to be used in domestic cling film meant for food wrap.

KPL technical service team can advise our customers on direct addition of polybutene to extruders, and on cling film evaluation - contact us for more information.

Personal care
KVIS polybutenes are pure, clear and practically non-toxic polymers.

Personal care products like lip-gloss and roll-on deodorants can be formulated with polybutene.

Because of high purity KVIS polybutenes, it can be used to replace fatty esters and other expensive oils in the personal care product formulations.

Rat / Squirrel trap application
It is also used in Rat / Squirrel trap application.
